Welcome to the Village of Mohawk
The Village of Mohawk rests on the southern bank of the historic Erie Canal and Mohawk River in Herkimer County at the northern border of the town of German Flatts. The village officially became known as Mohawk in 1838 and was named after the adjacent Mohawk River. Later Mohawk was incorporated on April 16, 1844.

GREEN/YARD WASTE COLLECTION [GREEN/YARD WASTE MUST BE CONTAINERIZED OR TIED/BUNDLED]
- Set out Sunday night for Monday pick-up beginning April 1st – last Monday in October. No container should exceed 50 pounds.
- Green waste (grass clippings, leaves, garden waste and shrub clippings) must be placed in a reusable container only***
- ALL containers must have handles. (NO cut out handles).
- Limit of THREE (3) containers per property (2022 change)
- DO NOT place green waste in plastic bags, galvanized barrels, laundry baskets, cardboard boxes or brown paper bags.
- Green waste should be free of stones, wood, paper, plastic pots/trays and animal waste.
- Lumber and other construction debris IS NOT considered brush or yard waste.
- Brush and shrubs cannot exceed four feet (4’) and must be placed in a reusable container or tied and bundled.
- Christmas trees will be collected at the end of December and during the month of January.
